Questions

Questions are what you ask after someone picks a slot. Name and email identify them. A custom question collects something the slot itself does not: a shirt size, a dietary note, a signed waiver.

When to ask

Ask only what you will use. A volunteer shift needs a name and a way to reach the person. A classroom party needs a name and, if you are sending a reminder, an email. A race waiver, a t-shirt size, or “how many kids are you bringing” is a real question. “Any comments?” on every sheet mostly goes unanswered.

If the answer is “which row,” that is a slot, not a question. Quantity on the row is how many spots exist. A question is extra information about the person who claimed one.

How to add them

In the builder footer, open Questions & fields. The panel is titled Signup Form.

Under Required Information, click Name, Email, Phone, or Address to collect that field. Click it again to turn it off. While it is on, the switch on the card marks it required. Collect email if you want a confirmation or a reminder to reach the person. Without an email address, there is nowhere to send those messages.

Under Custom Fields, pick a type. A row appears in the list. Open it to set the label, whether it is required, and — for choice fields — the options. The label is the question guests read, so write it as a question: “Dietary restrictions,” not “Field 3.”

Which type fits

  • Text is a short answer: a name of a dish, a classroom, a jersey number you do not need to add up. The free plan includes one custom question, and it has to be this type.
  • Long text is a paragraph. Use it for a note that will not fit on one line. It lives in the Type menu inside the question, and it is paid.
  • Dropdown is one choice from a list that would be long as buttons: grade, department, t-shirt size.
  • Multiple choice is one answer, shown as options. Use it when there are a few choices and you want them visible without opening a menu.
  • Checkboxes allow more than one answer: allergies, committees they can join, days they are free.
  • Number is a count you may total: how many children, how many chairs they can lend.
  • Poll is a vote. Use it when you want a tally of preferences, not a fact about one person.
  • Waiver is a block of text the person must read and sign. It is always required. Use it for a liability release, a photo release, or a code of conduct. It is not a place for optional notes.

On the free plan, Dropdown, Checkboxes, Multiple Choice, Number, Poll, and Waiver show a crown and stay locked. Long text is in the Type menu on a question, where it is marked Premium. A second custom question, of any type, is also refused until you upgrade. The message names the limit: one custom field per form.

Waivers

Click Waiver under Custom Fields. The dialog is titled Add Waiver. The label is what guests see, such as “Liability waiver.” Waiver text is the agreement itself. Write it or paste it there. It is always required, and the person signs it as part of signing up. You cannot mark a waiver optional.

Use a waiver when you need the signature stored with that signup: a race release, a photo release, a code of conduct. If you only need them to download a PDF, attach the file instead. That is covered under Documents. A paid plan can add as many waivers as the sheet needs. The free plan cannot add one.
